Profiling the actual display is the best option for sure but is not
practically available to everyone.The next best option would be to use
a monitor specific pre-defined display profile as the device profile
and lastly simply setting the display to a known standard device
profile such as sRGB and just running with that. Personally I've never
had a great deal of success with factory monitor profiles, I would
assume that the success depends largely on the accuracy and
consistency of factory monitor adjustment.
