I had been discussing the various options for upgrading the computer I use for processing photos, with the hopes that I'd have time and money to do something about it sometime in the next month or two.
The psychic abilities of computers are often amazing. Monday evening, it crashed hard enough that I had to power cycle it. Yesterday morning, it did it again. Yesterday evening it did so twice. It's a weird crash because the cursor is still active, but less and less functionality is available. It'll answer pings, but I can't ssh in. Unfortunately, mac doesn't have the equivalent to the linux ctrl-alt-F#, where you can switch to various virtual terminals and log in with a shell prompt. It may be a software issue, but I don't have time to wrestle with it.
