Canon did acknowledge the 5Diii light leak problem (and put some black tape inside to fix it: http://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2012/05/the-fix-is-in). But I think the way they handled this was a major failure on the part of the marketing department. Imagine what could have been: "The new Canon 5D Mark III, now with a built-in incident light meter!"
