I'm waiting (thanks to customs clearance) for a new toy (which, due to
unforseen difficulties, may have to be sold almost as soon as it gets here
*frown*). Via FedEx; there's GST only on it (I've verified this with a call
to FedEx).

I've lately only been nailed, if at all, with GST and never any
customs/duty. The last lens I bought via Ebay from the U.S. (135mm f3.5 M)
for $50 US showed up with nothing at all charged via USPS/Canada Post. The
last FedEx item I got from the U.S. (21mm Contax Biogon G) required GST as
well. An item from UK via Purolator (35mm Contax Planar G) showed up with
NOTHING required.

It appears, depending on how it is shipped, where it is shipped from and who
it is shipped with will create either a great deal of joy or pain for the
Canuck buyer.

Taxed to death (almost),
Dave

an easy way to get around it is put warranty on the
box, works for car parts but every lens that came up
from the states has been pinched.
