fwiw, OS X has native NTFS write capability but it is disabled by default and since it is hidden/unsupported the street-talk is that it is may not be reliable

if you have a bona fide need for NTFS, such as for recovering data from a dead Windows box, i would look into the third party drivers; i used MacFuse in the past, which has been superseded by OSXfuse; people speak well of Paragon; there is also a free one from Seagate; i am not current enough to make a recommendation
