First thing to try with anything resembling contacts problem is to take a clean pencil eraser and rub the contacts on the body and lens (to clean them). You shouldn't need to make any eraser shavings, but if there are blow them off in such a way that you don't get them inside the camera body. That is enough to fix most contact related issues.
