I'm more than pleased with the IQ of both my 1970's atomic S-M-C 50/1.4 and the DA* 55/1.4, but the DA* gives it just enough more magic as to be well worth the expense to me.
For one thing the aperture blades are curved such that from f/1.4 through f/4.0 the aperture is a perfect circle and the oof areas are just that much creamier with smooth transitions. I don't give a rat's ass about the other technical measurements that the lens weenies do. It's how painterly can I get a portrait to look that matters to me. You've seen that recent shot of Dorrie seated in a red sweater. _That_ speaks volumes about what the 55 does. Some folks are pretty much jizzing themselves over it. :) On Tue, Jun 9, 2015 at 1:30 PM, Larry Colen <l...@red4est.com> wrote: > I know that the DA* 55/1.4 is far more modern in construction than the > 50/1.4, but in terms of image quality how do the two of them compare? > > -- > Larry Colen l...@red4est.com (postbox on min4est) > > -- > PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List > PDML@pdml.net > http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net > to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and > follow the directions. -- -bmw -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
