While I didn't get Bear to be a deterrent, he was definitely viewed as such by neighbors until they became familar with him - strangers mostly stayed away.

I wasn't aware of the info about the Inuit Malamute background - thanks.

That is typical Malamute personality. Although their appearance can
be intimidating, they are ordinarily quite friendly to strange humans,
although not always to strange animals. They are not "one person"
dogs. In Northwest Alaska, where the Inuit relied on them for
transportation, no family could keep enough dogs to form a full team
for a seal, walrus or whale hunting expedition, so they relied on dogs
borrowed from their neighbors. Dogs that wouldn't go with and obey
someone other than their owner were, therefore, liabilities, and
eliminated from the gene pool.

My Malamute, Bear, was the biggest, nicest dog I've ever been around.
Somewhat independent but he knew who was boss. He was able to intimidate
alot who didn't know him.

Thanks Ken.

Since Bandit is an Alaskan Malamute, he can be a bit independent, but
basically he is well behaved. The other two in the image totally
ignore what ever I tell them.
