There was a Russian TV cartoon for kids:
One of the characters, a cat, who is mad at and refuses to speak to his
housemate, dog,asks the postmaster who visits their house to pass a
telegram "You are an idiot!". But then he finds out that a congratulatory
telegram is cheaper, but it has to contain some "congratulatory word". So
he sends: "Congratulations, you are an idiot!"
I'm glad your problem resolved this easily, even though you missed some
opportunities. I've had a couple of similar mishaps.
