I had some metallic -paper- prints made by Bay Photo through smugmug and liked them a lot - I don't think I realized earlier when Ken mentioned his metallic prints that it was actually a sheet of aluminum, not just a paper finish...

I had some Ilford paper that was high-gloss/metallic that I loved and they stopped making it (read- um -changed it)

ditto thatit works best for photos that are contrasty, I think

Worked great for my "Red Door" see PDML annual 2011 and "Soho shadows" PDML 2014

I've done several images printed on aluminum and am very happy with the results. I did them mainly for the ease of showing - they don't require mounting/matting and are ready to hang as is (these were from Bay Photo). Several are hanging in our kitchen and they can be cleaned with the swipe of a cloth.

Thank you, Don, for the pointer.

I wasn't aware of that option. I just looked, - and they are indeed very pricey. I like some photos how they look on metallic paper, and those aluminum sheets look like an interesting option. But at this price, I'd want to see how it looks first. So, I'll probably hold off until I can get to some print shop that has them to show (which might not happen any time soon, unfortunately).

I just managed to find a shop in Houston that presumably does this type of prints. "Presumably" is because they don't have the price list on their website ( http://www.akerimaging.com/ ). But I called them, and they confirmed. I will try to stop by when I am in Houston on a weekday to look at the samples.

Thanks. Yes I will hunt some down maybe from Red River as Paul S mentions in another reply. I was referring to larger prints on sheets of aluminum. They are pricey but come with a hanger and require no other framing, mitigating cost somewhat. With the right subject and lighting they can be quite attractive.
