it might take longer time, but it is possible. But if they are not
there, no grey card would help you getting them back.

Or, are you talking about setting the WB prior to shooting, as opposed
to post-processing? Even in that case, in most situations, it is
possible to do that in post, except for some bizarre, "pathological" cases.

OK, yes it is in theory possible. However, I have not had any luck adjusting the color to what I remember seeing.
