If I recall correctly, Ricoh's implementation of pixel shift produces
images with the same pixel dimensions as a 'normal' image but with
increased detail. This contrasts with the Olympus implementation which
produces images about 4 times (in area) that of the 'normal' file. I
just bought an E-M5 MkII but I'm yet to test its pixel shift capability.
I'm not sure it's something I'd use often anyway.

I'm not sure about the Olympus version. It's a cheap way of making a big pixel count image, but then you will most likely bin most of them anyway.

The Pentax version actually does a lot more for the image than that. I didn't think I would use it much until I started using it.
