Their terms of use, which you accept by buying the ticket and parking there, state in no uncertain terms that the ticket has to be displayed in a clearly visible manner.
If this had happened to me here in Germany, I certainly wouldn't have paid it without a fight. But I wouldn't want to find out that I or the vehicle have been put on some wanted list, next time we arrive at Dover.
