Durability and reliability are really two different issues. You can have a 
durable camera that's not very reliable and vice versa.
Anyway, the right Pentax camera for demanding environments is the LX. The 
LX was used by National Geographic for their sponsored antarctic 
expeditions. Bob Shell, the editor of Shutterbug, once said that a 
professional friend of his that shot in the rain forests of South America, 
had tried the professional cameras from the competition but only the LX 
lasted in that humid environment.

When it comes to sheer durability, measured in shutter cycles, the LX is 
probably the Pentax camera specified with the highest expected life cycle.
