I don't have to imagine how you feel. 15 years ago my buddy Elton died,
at just 12. His successor is now 15 and I'm already experiencing
anticipatory grief. Both were rescues and both made even the worst
parts of life easier just being there. There's an old proverb,
Scottish I think, that expresses the thought, that it's a blessing that
dogs don't live longer, if they did, it would be unbearable to lose them.
