Bill, you say “nice enough…”
More info please? I don’t really want another lens. If I were to buy this f/4.0
lens it would replace, not supplement my f/2.8 lens. The bulk and weight of the
/2.8 sometimes make me reluctant to even carry it with me. And if I do take it,
it means I leave something else behind. I wouldn’t mind sacrificing the
one-stop difference in max aperture, but what else would I be giving up?

So, do you also have the /2.8 and would you consider the /4.0 a reasonable
substitute?

I find it clumsy in use because of where the zoom ring is situated, but that seems to be how it's done, so I will have to adapt. My initial impression is that all you will be giving up is a stop of speed and a fair bit of size and weight.
It's an internal zoom and focus, so it isn't extending out as it zooms.
It should be OK using the camera for tripod mounting. It doesn't feel really front heavy on the K1. I tried taking some pictures with it, but the light was abysmal and it appears my ability to shake a camera exceeds the K1's ability to tame said shake. Everything I've been told is that it's a sharp lens, and my impression is that it has nice, smooth, bokeh. I tried to see if I could make it fringe by taking a picture I would never take otherwise and am happy in that regard.

I probably won't get out with it before the weekend, so I won't have pictures to share for a while.
