As a child there was much auto travelling on these two lane roads most often in the midwest and southeast.. I remember fondly Burma-Shave signs... I'm guessing some of you guys here remember them as well.

I think they date from the 50s before the advent of the Interstate Highway, when the old two-lane highways went through local communities.
