I understand the how. It's the authorization I don't get. Somewhere
along the line, the company has to ask to take the funds. Proximity
isn't permission.

for those of us who have discounted metro cards the contactless payment
on public transportation is not an option.. we still have to dip or
swipe our senior or disabled citizen cards . by 2025, we are told, all
busses and train stations will be equipped with OMNI machines and using
them will be the only option.. by then they are supposed to have figured
out how to recognize that one is supposed to get a discount. BTW - the
OMNI reads your phone if your phone has the correct stuff in it, or your
apple watch, etc.
