Ah, yes.

Back when I was still resident in the UK (almost 50 years ago now!) I was a
Guardian subscriber,
and even now I occasionally visit their online site and have a go at the daily
crossword.

I used to look forward to Araucaria's holiday crosswords, and eventually
managed to finish them.
I generally had a go at the daily crossword too, and I could usually complete
most of the grid.
This typically took me an hour or two, spread out over the course of the day.
I still remember one good day, though. I was taking the train up to London
from Reading, and
after a quick glance through the paper I settled down to have a go at that
day's puzzle. I was
able to guess the underlying theme fairly early on, and completed filling in
the grid in around
15 to 20 minutes. whereupon I folded the paper and put it down on the sear
beside me.
At this point the passenger sitting opposaite me said something like "Giving up
on it?" to me.
I just smiled back at him - I felt that saying "No - I've finished it" might be
a bit much.
