Digital ice works using an infrared light. Conventional black and white and
Kodachrome films are not transparent to IR light, E-6 and C-41 (including
chromegenic B&W) are, so digital ice doesn't work with B&W and Kodachrome.
We have digital ice on the Noritsu 2711 printer at work. It defeats digital
ice when using conventional B&W. Having defeated that a couple of times, the
prints will often take a blurred/smeared look to them. The moral of the
story; clean your B&W and kodachromes well before scanning without digital
ice.
