It is EVERYTHING it is cracked up to be, and more!

I would forget the 85 unless you feel like using the extra weight to
keep you fit, or REALLY need the extra stop or half stop whatever it is.

Some debate which of the two has the best bokeh, and I think it comes
down to personal taste.  Both are slightly different in this respect,
but both are great.  Neither is probably better, just different.

The 77 is compact and much lighter than the 'big beast' 85.

I use mine for all my portraits now, if I am able to stand at the right
distance for my subjects.  Otherwise I use the 24-90 or a 28-70f2.8, for
their versatility.  Once you see the results of the 77, you don't want
to use anything else because you feel you would be selling your subjects
short by doing so!
