Wow... as an outsider, this thread has turned hillarious.

As a Macintosh Lisa owner and founder of the PDXLUG (Portland Lisa

name. Insensitive clods...

Oh NO! More CONFUSION. Imagine, brining a Mac LISA in. Linux doesn't even run on it. Well, I will spend some time wringing my hands, k?

So let me get this straight...

~1994: PLUG (Portland Linux/Unix Group) is started. It's a fairly formal group.
Actually, they began (I think) as Portland Linux Users Group, but eventually the BSDers and others felt excluded so a consensus was reached - They became the Portland Linux/Unix Group.

~2001: PLUG claims their name with the state.

Then came the dark times, when website changes led to the exposition of peoples dirty laundry on mailing lists. Godwins observation led the fearsome traffic the a mailing list now polluted with non-Linux/Unix related debate and flames. People griped. People whined. Some people formed a low traffic safe list, with an as-yet unused domain name. It sort of blossomed into "Hey let's meet.". That is pretty much the beginning of THIS thread. [Since this all merely continues the saga of hurt feelings and spilt milk.]
~1/2003: PDXLUG mailing list is started, soon after developing in to a
separate, less formal group, using the name "Portland Linux User
Group."
~7/2003: PLUG claims PDXLUG's name with the state. Granted, it was a
terribly unoriginal name, and anyone could've seen this coming, but
hindsight's 20/20. Squabbling ensues.
Regardless, we make concessions. NAMELY we highlight the fact that our name (since we NEVER really picked one) is PDXLUG. We are a Portland Linux users group. So Robby and Matt changed the website to reflect our now chosen name (since we HAD to do something to appease the traffic generators from PLUG.)
~7/2005: Squabbling persists. Fortunately, it sounds pretty friendly,
and in my experience, it's something "Penguinistas" aren't averse to.

Damn, is it really worth the confusion? There are ~60 posts in this
thread. I've read each word of each post- something I don't think I've
ever done with any thread of any kind of this length. *Finally*, I
*think* I understand the difference between the two groups. Please
correct me if I'm wrong.

And which one is it that Ron Jeremy goes to?

OMG Russ is going to have a field day with this. He will highlight the confusion here, and fail to take any responsibility for it at all. He will claim that if we never left PLUG, that this would never happen. I would point out that if we never left the jungle, we never would have had this problem either. However, that begs the question, of should we have ever left the sea?

However, the crux is:

www.plug.org is Provo Linux Users Group - Causing confusion because of the initials. www.pdxlinux.org PLUG: Portland Linux/Unix Group - Angels of mercy in a confusing world. (And upset they only registered one name) www.pdxlug.org PDXLUG, A Portland Linux Users Group - Demons of hatred, spawning confusion.

Now I don't think that the demon caricature has actually been used, but it seems a bit implied. Few of these threads have actually been Godwin'd.

Oh, and *we* have Ron Jeremy. =P
