Setting up a firewall is probably redundant at this point with a Linksys
router. However that being said there is a still a lot that can be
done.

I bought a Usparc 1 machine from ebay for $15.00. It can with a 4 port
ethernet card. I use this as my firewall. I have a separate DMZ for a
webserver, and I have 2 internal networks, one wired and one wireless.
I also run openvpn on the firewall that allows me vpn access to the
wired network from the wireless, or anywhere else in the world. I use
the shorewall client for a firewall itself. It's well documented and
has a lot of flexibility and is easier to maintain and more thorough
than crafting my own iptables ruleset.

With a little work the Linksys router can be replaced.

If a nation values anything more than freedom, it will lose its freedom;
and the irony of it is that if it is comfort or money it values more, it
will lose that, too.
