Jeff,
have you retrieved and read the Altium tutorials on queries? I haven't, so I
don't know how good or appropriate it may be, but I know Altium made some and posted
them to their website more than a year ago (for the DXP 2002) earliest revisions of
the documents.
Under DXP 2004 there are:
TU0115 Editing Multiple Objects
also: AR0109 Introduction to the Query Language
and: AR0129 An Insider's Guide to the Query Language
and under their DXP (2002) section you can find the earlier versions:
Introduction to the Query Language
