Hi Brad.

Yes I retrieved and read about 20 different PDFs including several on the query language. I have programmed for over 20 years and understand the concepts easily enough, but there are some fine nuances when trying to apply this to practical everyday problems. I found the tutorial examples to come up short in providing a good detailed understanding of special details to consider as applicable to common everyday global changes. I could follow the examples, but still had a hard time creating my own such that they worked first time. Sure, I could figure them out by repeated iterations, but its too easy to make mincemeat of a real design in the process. My feeling at the time was that if I could see some applicable examples with something akin to inline comments explaining why it was done the way it was, it would be a lot more readily assimilated.

Jeff,
have you retrieved and read the Altium tutorials on queries? I haven't, so I don't know how good or appropriate it may be, but I know Altium made some and posted them to their website more than a year ago (for the DXP 2002) earliest revisions of the documents.

Under DXP 2004 there are:

TU0115 Editing Multiple Objects

also: AR0109 Introduction to the Query Language

and: AR0129 An Insider's Guide to the Query Language

and under their DXP (2002) section you can find the earlier versions:

Introduction to the Query Language

also: An Insider's Guide to the Query Language

and: Protel DXP's Data Editing Paradigm

Maybe one of the users on this forum who feels very comfortable with DXP
could document exactly how they do a half dozen or so common global actions
using the query builder, and then publish the document.
