I have 99SE and sp6 and have had problems with a design containing parts

being the cause of my problems, maybe it's a case of "if it ain't broke,
don't fix it".
I think this is the best advice.....
The problem is sort of intermittant: yesterday the synchroniser worked once
every session (the first time), today it is a bit of pot luck: sometimes it
works straight away, sometimes I need to say 'Ignore' quite a few
times...... Simply deleting the .cfg and .raf files seems to help a bit, too.

don't use the synchronizer :)
i just use the make netlist, load netlist
Alas, I already tried that one: loading a netlist generated the same error....
Leo you are really having more trouble than you ought to
It is probably just me, I always have weird problems with PCs <:-|
E.g. on my old DOS box using Windows 3.11: if I move my trackball during
the starting of Windows all works fine, if I do nothing I lose all the
settings. Re-installed just about everything, no luck.
On this box (W2kPro) the startup folder did not always get executed.
Although that problem now seems to be gone.
invalid file format sounds *maybe* a little like an old service pack
version trying to read a newer service pack file ?
Nope. Always had SP6, always installed from the original CD.....
The problems seem, now that I start thinking about it, related to the
windows updates: the last update caused the virus scanner to malfunction...
<snip>
i will not be cleaing them up
On second thought, neither will I: I do not believe that the problem lies
with the naming of components; some of my components are quite old and did
not cause any problems before..
I did, however, notice a difference in the naming of the libraries
themselves: using 'non-DOS' characters in the filename increases the
probability of (but does not garantee) strange crashes.....
Right now it works, sort of. Almost like an old TV set: some days it works
without a hitch, sometimes it needs a 'firm tap' in certain places,
sometimes you just need to go to the movies...
Anyway, this is probably my last desing in Protel. I'll be moving to Mentor
(DX designer/PADS) next month.
Thanks for the support.
