Hello Ivan,
The excempt for EU leadfree regulation is only for life support equipment,
not for non-critical medical equipment.

Tom, your company makes medical equipment, right? Isn't medical equipment
exempted from European lead-free regulations (WEEE)? I sure hope so. I'd
hate for medical equipment to fail from tin whisker growth.
Come to think of it, I'd hate for any equipment to fail for that reason.
Oh well, the customer will just buy a new unit to replace the failed one,
and that's good for business, right? Right? If the customer complains,
I'll just explain that the Europeans won't let us use the good solder
anymore. Do you think that will make them feel better and give them that
warm fuzzy feeling as they reach for their wallet?
Best regards,

My boards have a 50mil pitch BGA. The soic's down to .4mm pitch.
Matte tin, ENIG ?? I imagine Matte tin would be the cheapest.
Also, with the extra heat needed in reflow, will FR4 be ok?
Any help will be appreciated.
