Jeez, look what I started?? Hey did you hear the joke about the three engineers? There was an American, a German and a Bulgarian... (I better stop now)
Anyway Mira, your story about females is not unlike stories I've heard from my male black engineers here in the US. They seem to be held to a higher standard to 'prove' themselves, and that just isn't right. Bulgaria. > How do you think it depends on the government? The Government sponsors certain number of students every year and males/females are given equal chances. You have to pass an exam and the results show who wins the sponsorship. The other can still study but they have to pay for their education or find a sponsor. > It's quite difficult to measure the effort of others > and compare it objectively to one's own effort. > It's already difficult to measure the > quality of the results, but it's very difficult to > measure the effort put > into them. I know that. My observations for more than 25 years practice in engineering field show that if a man and a woman have the same knowledge and do the same job and they do one and the same mistakes, the man is excused because by default he "just forgot it" while the woman by default "didn't know it". I've seen many of my colleagues doing mistakes (male and female) and it was all the same. If working in a team and something bad happens, the first to blame is in between the females. They have to prove it wasn't their fault. If males and females work on one and the same project, males can have a delay because the project is difficult while females have a delay because they are stupid and can't manage faster. It also depends on the reputation of the country you come from. It's not a secret that due to some gypsy actions abroad every person from my country has a reputation of a thief. So, if you work in a team with American, German and Bulgarian engineers and something is missing, who do you think will be blamed by default? I don't think there is a relation in which country you grow to have preferences which profession to choose. It depends on many things and also if you can afford it. Oh, yes... there are West European countries where most girls just wait to finish high school and start looking for a rich man to marry him and have a dozen kids. They don't have any other interests. I was grown different way and my thinking is completely different. By "succeed" in engineering I mean to keep practicing it. I don't dream of anything more than being helpful and enjoying what I do. Nobody knows everything anyway. When I joined this forum and some other I was surprised to see that males doing PCB designs dominated but for some people this is only a way of doing business. Oh, well.. I have to go back to work. Mira __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
