Tom,
typically the only issue with selecting a non-standard soldermask is
whether or not your fabricator(s) have it in stock. If not, how much are they
going to charge you to get it in and how long will it take.
Typically in our fab notes we simply callout whether the soldermask is
one or two sides, color and on some occasions whether it is LPI (liquid photo
imageable) or no preference (blank).

I've always used a green soldermask on my boards. This time they want a blue
color.
I remember seeing blue used on power boards - I wonder if it matters.
What would be the proper callout for a blue soldermask on the fab drawing or
would just putting blue solder mask be enough.
