but i assume it would be in theory possible (if they chose to do so) to take the comment and put it into the file name comment attribute in the windows file system

BTW why does windows not allow putting a comment for a directory (aka 'folder') as it does for files ?
it would very useful if it did

in 99SE we have been putting comments in the description fields for the file names internal to the DDB

this is a great feature and many items contain vital info which would be a ton of work to track down and restore if lost

(right click on file, properties, put stuff in description, comments show up in file listing on right)

so the question is, does AD preserve these comments in the DOS :) er, wondoze, file name structure ?
