We have a mature product that uses 2 -Agilent Hctl-2016 counters. They recently obsoleted this part, but Future Elect had several thousand on hand with little movement, so I asked my customer to have me stockpile a years supply to cover any rush shipments. We will layout a new board next year for a new part. I was dismayed a week later to find their entire stock was gone. After talking with several 'hard to find parts" distributors quoting 2-3 times the old price ($12+), I found a web site called HKinventory.com. They had over 200 companies with surplus inventory for sale. I sent 3 request for quotes to the most local companies, and the site also broadcast my needs. This was at 10pm last night. At 7:30 this morning, I was surprised to find 30 quotes for the part, at prices below the 100 quantity prices I had been paying previously. They were all from China, and several were showing stock in the 100k+ pieces. I picked one that was U.S.A. language friendly, and emailed a request for shipping and payment info. They promptly answered back with a friendly letter and a pro forma invoice, with $25 charge for e-payment and $25 shipping, and a 2 week delivery. The company, Oways Electronics Co., LTD has no hits on a web search, and I have requested more info on their business, before proceeding. My question is have any of you used the HKinventory service for parts, and what are my chances of getting my parts from a company in China that will have my money up front? This is a great thing if the sites are legit , sort of an ebay buyer beware, if not.
The distributor may be legit, but the PARTS may be counterfeit! You have to watch out carefully. Of course, if the parts work correctly and are reliable, you may not CARE if they are counterfeit, as long as they work.
