Leif,
I typically don't do split planes but it sounds to me like you are
missing the initial configuration/approach. You must specify in the stackup
menu that the internal planes are "Planes" and within that menu you assign the
net to the plane. Then later you add your splits into the single net planes
that you already set-up.
Since you mention polygons, it just sounds like you are taking the
wrong approach from the start.
Since you already have stuff you have put on those plane layers, you
may very well have to remove all of that stuff before you can properly set-up
the planes in the stack-up configuration. You will definitely have to remove
any polygons because planes are negative layers (no graphic = copper, graphics
= no copper).

Subject: [PEDA] Split planes is not like the book says (DE99)

I am doing a large 4 layer board, and I am trying to follow the
instructions in the DE99 destruction manual.
It does not work as it says in the book, and as always, in a rush to do
the boards.........

I am doing this on an existing design, and just doing simple complete
re-designs, while I get constant updates and changes, the usual....

I have set up a GND and a +15V internal layer.
It will not let me pick a net for it on either plane.
If I add another plane, (5th layer) then it lets me add the net ot it.

I have 2 +5V nets, +/- 15V. 12V for the power plane nets, and a ground
and digital ground for the GND plane.

I can't set nets for either, but I can put in the polygons for the
grounds, and they are there, but not connected at connectors yet....
It does connect to the pads like it should, but still have to fake it
out at connector.......or do it right........

I have selected the power nets, the power layer was on, and in draft
mode for the pads.

It says I have no internal planes defined in the stack........

Do I have to remove everything on those layers first? Some tracks still
there, from last design.
Should I remove all the nets from the 2 inner layers and re-do it?

Is there a page missing from the destruction manual?

The forum is the only place I know that can help me out, and sure hope
that it won't go away..........

Thanks!
