Thanks for the information.
I did look at the information in the RoHS forum located at
http://www.ipc.org/contentpage.asp?PageID=4.3.1
Looks like there _may_ be an exemption for obsoleted parts but even if they
do have an exemption it will not apply to consumer products which does not
help me.

Some suggested re-tinning the leads but I doubt that will work since
non-lead processes require higher temperatures that older leaded parts are
not designed for.

The leaded parts I have in stock are going to be unusable and I will have to
do a redesign.
I never thought about it but a lot of the brokers that deal in old and end
of life components are really going to be hurt buy RoHS since many of their
parts will be useless in Europe. Personally I hate going to brokers because
they know they have the part you want and it isn't being produced anymore
they have you over a barrel. On the bright side at least they had the part
you wanted.

Gisbert / Tino

All products placed on the market before the deadline can be sold.

By placed on the market they have to be available for sale to the end
customer. Not nearly done, in production, ordered but not delivered, but
physically available.

Always exceptions though..... Such is bueracracy

On good "gotcha" from some activities we currently do here.

If you manufacture modules and sub modules or components to be integrated
into a larger product, as far as I know you can sell them as "your" product
as it exists in the market before the deadline as long as it complies with
the definition of an end product. But you might not get any buyers other
than for service even well before the dealine.

Why, because, your customer then breaks the directive by including your non
RoHS compliant assemblies in their "RoHS" compliant product which is
technically manufactured after the deadline, depending on lead times from
goods in to deliver product for distribution. Supply chain plays a big part
here. You also cannot use the non-RoHS sub modules or assemblies for service
of RoHS compliant products as the product may not share the same disposal
path for EOLV as it should also be stamped for WEEE so you could end up
falling foul or WEEE unless you segregate the items before sending to an
approved recycling centre.

And after all our efforts we need more natural resources and produce more
emmissions to generate the energy to recycle the products at their EOL ....
Makes you think.
