But we have yet to receive clarification about the nature of the "clearance" (distance) as well. :-)
So would it be reasonable to suggest that this could be the minimum distance that you always try to maintain between yourself and less agreeable associates, or is it a property of associates as to whether or not they are fit for receiving information of a discrete nature? For all that, this thread has still been very interesting and illuminating, and there are certainly no complaints from me concerning whether it has been on topic (for this mailing list).
