Mr. Selfridge didn't claim that gEDA was a Linux equivalent to Protel. He said that it was the ONLY free Linux open source EDA suite. There are a couple of small PCB programs, but nothing else that offers a "complete" toolset free.
In fact, compared with Protel, it's a toy.
