In Peirce the object is pointed to (indexically), that is, it is *not* an
*icon*. Or perhaps one could say that the immediate object may be said to
suggest characters 'selected' (so to speak) from the dynamic object, which
cannot be known in its fullness (at least in any given sign), but that the
sign itself is a 1ns ( e.g., cat, chat, gato all represent the same
object). I feel that there is a great confusion of terminology here, but I
won't take this any further here.

PS I have just read your last post and cannot agree that inquiry (beginning
with abduction) is at all "the same thing" as semiosis itself. I can agree
that Peirce's pragmatism would have us attempt at least to "make our ideas
clear," but that requires, imo, exact and consistent terminology and a good
grasp of the distinction between different concepts (whenever there are
clear distinctions to be made). In  other words, it is not helpful to
conflate very different concepts (such as semiosis and inquiry).
