Rafe,

I think they are basically the same thing in and of themselves,
but the term "abduction" refers to a particular tradition and
genre of theories regarding their genesis and logical rationale,
harking back to Aristotle's "apagoge" as augmented by Peirce's
analysis of inquiry.
