Dear Progressive Economists: I don't remember reading much if anything
on pen-l on the political economy of gender. Has there been anything?
If not, perhaps we are a rather a chauvinist lot? There is now also
an email network for feminist economics; and now also a journal:
"Feminist Economics". I am going to take the liberty of placing some
information about the new journal on the net. You should get your
library to subscribe; and do it yourself. If you want information about
how to organise sending articles to the new journal, please contact
me. This is not an ad for myself - I am not on the editorial board!

But I do happen to think that the political economy of gender is crucial.
I have an article being published in the Review of Social Economy (no 1
1995) on "Family, Household Labour and Macroeconomic Instability in the
US: 1940s-1990s" where I argue that instability in the family affects
economic performance in the wider economy.

So has pen-l discussed gender and feminist economics? If not we should
start doing so. cheers, Phil O'Hara
