I think that the Yugoslav experience tells us that market socialism 
doesn't serve to minimize the gap between richer and poorer regions. 
Looking at the conditions of Albanian women in Kosovo especially, I 
don't think it helps to counter sexism either.

Generally speaking, the market tends to reproduce and often 
accentuate the existing inequalities.  Probably because the market 
treats women (due to the need for maternity leaves, etc.) as "less 
efficient" workers than men.

As China has become more and more market-oriented, conditions of 
women have worsened also.  Women in post-socialist societies have 
seen their gains reversed, too.
