A lot of law is technical and there are centuries of technical vocabulary that have built up. You used the law French term "lien," for example, or "mortgage," etc. Some of this is necesasry, some of it is useful. But "legalese," all that "party of the first part" stuff thea the Marx brother used to have such glorious fun with ("No, Virginia, there isn't any sanity clause."), is mostly dispensible. It will never look like Hemingway. Unless you are a great prose writer it never look like Holmes. But it's not toomuch to ask that it look like good good clear legal writing.
