Seumas Milne is one of the most consistent progressive journalists over more than a decade. He does not write often, but it is always worth reading.

About the "crisis of democracy" within the UK, the tried and tested system is already in play. The two party system of bourgeois democracy works because the parties know that in a crisis they over-ride it, in the name of the royal prerogative, and the interests of the established social system.

Blair this morning has very publicly invited Duncan Smith to "emergency" talks in Downing Street ..... ready presumably for announcements tomorrow, since Bush has said that votes must be cast by then, if there are any to cast.
