Is it possible for people in the U.S. left, progressives, or however we may call ourselves, to take this seriously? What should be our collective response? Is it business as usual or are we observing a significant surge in this kind of political behavior by the right wingers? In any event, it's being propagated by the media, which leverages it politically. Death threats to Obama are at a record high. Should we view allusions to this as a trick to enforce unthinking unity, uniformity, and conformity behind the DP and Obama's policies? That is, as a cynical ploy to rally support for "the DP and Obama wholeheartedly and even without question, despite their limitations" -- as Jim Devine puts it?
