Undoubtedly true (as Bernard Lewis emphasizes, and I am unaware of any Zionist coverup), but its akin to saying that Blacks were better treated in the North than the South. The Muslims countries had an institutional structure -- dhimmitude -- to deal with minorities, while Christian Europe did not, which created all kinds of problems that continues to manifest itself today. But dhimmitude is rooted in the acknowledgment of inferior status, and somehow I don't think the Israeli Jews are prepared to agree to dhimmitude as a solution to the Jewish/Arab conflict.
