I have not surveyed any auto firms lately but I suspect multinationals do
not use that threat in India.  The main reason is that labor still has some
voice in India and FDI is aimed at the domestic market.  In some ways this
is India's strength in that the economy is still domestic consumption
driven.  However, employers do use scare tactics of firing workers, hiring
more contract workers, and because of abundant semi-skilled workers, workers
are are generally risk averse unless some party based unions get active,
which they often do.
