These economists are crazy: They are differentiating nondifferentiable functions, integrating nonintegrable functions, sum nonsummable series, what have you.
Further, much of mainstream economics is about reverse engineering. Results do not follow from the theory. Theory follows from the results. I would always take a political scientist more seriously than a mainstream economist.
