Sure there were. But markets were pretty small. Volume didn't really take off until the financial contracts (like T-bonds) were listed. There were unlisted options in the old days too, but volume was tiny until the CBOE started trading them around 1973. > P.S. I have instituted a fatwa on anyone using the word "performativity." Why?
