Tom's posts are often too elliptical for  me, but if I understand what he is
saying here, I agree. More generally (and more prosaically) we really cannot
predict the future (Mao: "Marxists have no crystal ball"; Sweezy: "Present
as history"). Even under exceptional conditions we* may well lose, but that
is no reason not to struggle.
