The Carrolian left will exist if/when and only if/when Carrol says so.
 It's *his* abstraction and, under the Constitution of the United
States of America, he's totally entitled to it.

Now, the rest of us can only take part of -- or deal with -- the
"historically existing," the "actually existing" left, or whichever
name we may choose for it.  This actual left is not the most
encouraging and coherent organization ever (it looks more like an
amorphous organism, if you ask), but it is *something*.
