Having patent rights, these companies have monopolies in the
pharmaceuticals they push. But as far as I know, they don't collude
the way a cartel does (to limit the supply of their wares). Instead,
they create competing pharmaceuticals (Cialis vs. Viagra, etc.) The
usual story of a cartel involves the sale of a relatively homogeneous
commodity such as oil or copper.
