The MOOCs have tremendous potential for good, but they will never meet
their potential.

Some time ago, Michael Yates wrote about his experience regarding his
possible job as an online instructor.

Instead, they will be used to save labor costs & shortchange students. I
have been saying for a while that within 5 years, out 23 campuses will have
a single introductory instructor.

I assume MOOC-masters will be careful careful not so say anything
controversial to protect their lucrative positions. Courses will be dumbed
down.

At the same time, high quality instructional videos would open up the world
to ideas that many people would not have the opportunity to experience.

I tried to convince our congressman of opening up a radio channel to do
something similar via radio. He was slightly interested in the concept,
but his staff quickly vetoed it.
